Employee development at Rift Valley
Over the last four months, an exciting new training initiative has begun at the Rift Valley headquarters in Harare. Designed to broaden the experience of working for Rift Valley, the training benefits a group made up of mostly junior members and interns from within the financial analysis and audit departments, though more senior employees occasionally take part as well.
Meeting every two weeks or so, the group is under the mentorship of Rift Valley's Dr Christian Westerlind Wigstrom and Nick De Swardt, who have taken their charges on a diverse journey, exploring such topics as etiquette, morality, ethics and the limits of institutions, to the focal study of Proclaimed American political philosopher Michael Sandel. During these sessions, the participants make presentations on the topic in question as well as debate more freely, the idea being to give all the opportunity to hone a presentation and debating skills in the process.
Recently, the US election has provided plentiful (if somewhat avant-garde) subject matter for the group, providing volunteers the opportunity to adopt Clinton and Trump perspectives in impassioned head to heads.
Currently the group is following a course in valuesbased leadership which investigates business and professional ethics, providing a valuable foundation for this next generation of achievers. Rift Valley will continue to promote the development of its young talent and plans to expand this method of holistic leadership guidance throughout its footprint.
